coach with Dana

Now offering dramatic coachings! In person and virtual sessions available.

How to prepare for a dramatic coaching:

  • Coachings will be focused on dramatic representation in selected literature: operatic arias, musical theater selections, monologues, scenes, etc.

  • Knowledge of the show your piece is from. Be ready to discuss the character, environment, relationships to other characters, etc.

  • Be familiar with the text and translation if it’s in another language.

  • Be memorized.

Music Needs (specific to operatic arias and musical theater):

  • Having a pianist for your dramatic coaching is ideal. You are welcome to bring your own pianist, or I can help you find one. Please note, pianist fees are not included in the coaching fee.

  • If hiring a pianist is not an option, due to scheduling or financial reasons, we can work with a track. I have the accompanist app, which can be played through a speaker. If your repertoire is not on the app, please be prepared to provide your own track.

  • Virtual: Provide a speaker (or another alternative) to play the accompaniment on your end.

What to expect:

  • Giving a dramatic coaching is one of my favorite things to do. I like to set up a fun, judgement free environment for us to work in, while working efficiently.

  • Be ready to sing through your aria at least once. Then we’ll work through the piece, talking about the character, intentions, etc. You are welcome to bring more than one aria to a session.

  • This is a collaborative process where we will workshop each other’s ideas and find what’s best, specifically for you.

  • Coachings are open to everyone, but they are perfect for those who are getting ready for an audition, feeling stuck with the same aria they have sung for years, or looking for freedom.

Rates:

  • Individual: $60/hour

  • Group: $100/hour (2+ people, in-person only)

  • I’ll be donating 10% of all profits to Unicef.
